Head of Business Enterprise - Humanitarian & Leadership Academy Place of Work: Farringdon - London Grade: 2 Department: Global Office - Humanitarian and Leadership Academy Reports to: Director of Humanitarian and Leadership Academy Line management responsibility: Senior Relations Manager, Communications Manager Budget Responsibility: Tbc Child Protection Level: Level 2 - the responsibilities of the post do not require you to have one to one contact with children or young people but you may have regular but infrequent contact, usually with different groups of children and young people.
Job Purpose Reporting to the Director of the Humanitarian and Leadership Academy, this is a senior role within the Academy, driving the business development of the Humanitarian and Leadership Academy as it grows worldwide.
The Head of Business Enterprise will play a lead in the planning and development of a rolling 5 year strategic plan, the associated business plan, including effective budget planning and setting of financial targets. This will be achieved through working pro-actively with Global Office and Academy Centre staff, Save the Children UK staff, Save the Children International, other global Save the Children Members and external partners around the world to enable the consistent and coherent establishment of robust partnerships, systems and processes in order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the Academy:
Key accountabilities
Strategic Business Planning  Further develop the Academy strategy and associated business plan, identifying and developing suitable income streams from both internal and external sources, through business modelling, marketing and effective communication plans.  As part of the Academy Senior Management Team, play a key strategic and operational role in the design, development, management, resourcing, promotion and partnering of The Academy  Support the Senior Relations Manager in the development of regional Academy Centres, particularly in the development of costing models for programme sustainability and governance structures Work with the Head of Learning and Professional Development and, as posts are recruited, the leads for Knowledge and Practice, to ensure collaborative strategic development within the Global Office, Academy Centres and wider sector Networking and External Representation  Participate in market development, including participation in road shows, Steering Group meetings, conferences etc  Together with the Academy Director,Head of Learning and Professional Development and Senior Academy Relations Manager, consult and engage with external stakeholders, in the development of business partnerships
Systems Development  Develop, establish, and ensure implementation of operating policies to support overall Academy policies and objectives  Oversee the development and maintenance of the overall Academy master budget and specifically, the Global Office budget  Work with the Head of Learning and Professional Development to ensure that overall system development encompasses data collection for all relevant Academy activities  Oversee any key developments regarding the website and learning management system
Communications and Marketing  Line manage the Senior Relations Manager and Communication and Marketing Manager  Consultation and engagement with a range of internal stakeholders  Work with Communications and Marketing Manager to develop and manage the Communication Plan for both internal and external audiences (including launch)  Assist in the marketing and fundraising for the Academy and direct liaison with key Corporate and high value Donors
General  Share in the deputising for the Academy Director with the Head of Learning and Professional Development  Oversee the development of any relevant policies to meet the Academy objectives of longer term sustainability  Any other duties as required as part of the Academy Senior Management Team Working contacts Internal: SCUK Fundraising team, Humanitarian department and People and Organisational Development staff, especially senior management team; Save the Children International HQ staff; global and regional HR staff; SC members External: Institutional, philanthropic and corporate donors, NGOs and INGOs involved in capacity building; other Academies and other international and regional organisations. Person specification ESSENTIAL CRITERIA  Strong financial and business modelling skills  Experience of international work and understanding of the humanitarian sector  A masters degree or significant equivalent leadership experience in a relevant discipline (Business Administration, Training, Educational Management)  Solid working knowledge of budgeting, sales, business development, and strategic planning  Solid understanding of business principles and social enterprises  Excellent strategic thinking, leadership and management skills and substantial experience of line management of large strategic project teams comprised of internal and external members  High level expertise in developing and delivering long-term strategy in a large/complex organisation  Proven track record in delivering organisational development interventions  Entrepreneurship and business development skills - proven experience of establishing new projects/initiatives (including HR and finance/fundraising elements)  Excellent written and spoken English  Experience of influencing and lobbying at a senior level
Desirable  Experience in either humanitarian operations or development work including substantial exposure to the practical challenges of training and people development  Competence in a second language (French, Spanish, Swahili, Arabic, Portuguese preferable)  Experience in employing new technologies to improve knowledge management, organisational learning, networking, distance learning  Commercial sector expertise
