TENURE TRACK OR TENURED POSITION IN FIRE SAFETY ENGINEERING (FSE)
which can be filled at any level from assistant professor to tenured professor.
Job description
Fire Safety Engineering (FSE) is a new research area in Aalto University. The research area of the professorship in FSE may focus on prevention, control or mitigation of the effects of fire. This includes, for instance, combustion, heat transfer, fire spread, evacuation safety, fire safety design and rescue services as considered by applying various experimental, phenomenological and computational tools.
The research area includes also the development of FSE in internationally esteemed research programs. He or she will be responsible for teaching FSE, both on MSc and PhD levels, as well as the development of education. In addition, the professor is expected to broaden and strengthen the research profile of the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering by co-operating with research areas closely related to the field of FSE.
Aalto University will support to build up a research group in FSE and will provide the professor with extremely powerful computation services for numerical analysis and simulation. In addition, the location of the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland near the University will offer excellent possibilities for fruitful cooperation with domestic experts there.
The position is located in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, please seehttp://buildtech.aalto.fi/en/. Currently, the department has 10 professors and about 60 researchers and doctoral students. In 2015, the number of department`s tenure track professors is planned to be in total 15.
Requirements
Those in the academic tenure track system are expected to exercise and guide scientific research, to provide related higher academic education, to follow the advances of their field,  to participate in service to the Aalto University community, and to take part in societal interaction and international collaboration in their field.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, for example physics, chemistry or engineering sciences. The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching and academic leadership and activity in scientific community.
Salary
Aalto University follows the salary system of Finnish universities, but applicants may also provide salary requirements.

• three most significant publications (in electronic format)
• a plan how to build up the research group, and the contents of education and research of FSE (maximum of two pages)
