Web Developer, California Ocean Science Trust

Overview
The California Ocean Science Trust is seeking a committed, talented, and thoughtful professional to serve as the Web Developer. This position will focus on expanding the functionality, features, and sophistication of "OceanSpaces," the new online community platform. The Web Developer will perform software development tasks related to the Drupal content management system (CMS) as well as contribute to innovative projects such as scientific data visualization, social media integration, and other related efforts. A strong technical background, accompanied by good communications skills and enthusiasm, is critical to successful integration into a highly skilled, cross-disciplinary team of natural and social scientists, technologists, and communications specialists. Most importantly, a passion for meaningful innovation must motivate a top candidate.
OceanSpaces.org is an online community that fosters new knowledge of ocean health. The platform brings together everyone with a stake in the health of California's ocean – scientists, fishermen, policymakers and citizens – offering new opportunities for individuals to communicate, create and share information. A shared body of scientific knowledge enables us to make informed decisions and becomes the basis for participation in ocean resource management and stewardship. OceanSpaces launched to the public in November 2012 as the hub of scientific monitoring data, analyses and results from California's network of marine protected areas (MPAs).
OceanSpaces is managed by the MPA Monitoring Enterprise (www.monitoringenterprise.org ), a team within the California Ocean Science Trust (OST), which is a non-profit public benefit corporation established pursuant to the Coastal Ocean Resources Stewardship Act of 2000 to provide scientific guidance to the state on ocean policy issues. Additional information on the California Ocean Science Trust can be found at www.calost.org.
The Web Developer will perform software development tasks related to the Drupal content management system (CMS) as well as contribute to innovative projects such as scientific data visualization, social media integration, and other related efforts. Work within the OST culture typically entails both social and technical activities such as meeting with project partners, responding to user feedback, monitoring system use, devising and testing new features, implementing core Drupal modules and developing new ones, and consulting on new technical projects as they arise.
The position will be based in Oakland, California. It includes generous benefits (medical, dental and vision). Starting date is as soon as possible, preferably by March 1, 2013. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and is expected to be in the range of $50,000 - $65,000. Funding is available for one year with good possibility of extension.
