Communications Specialist for USAID’s Knowledge Driven Agricultural Development (KDAD) Project


Dexis is seeking a Communications Specialist for an anticipated five (5) year USAID funded Knowledge Driven Agricultural Development (KDAD) Project working closely with the Bureau for Food Security (BFS). This will be a full-time, key position based in Washington DC. The purpose of the project is to build on existing USAID investment in Knowledge Management and Communications and Training activities.

BFS seeks to develop a new mechanism to promote Knowledge-Driven Agricultural Development (KDAD) through effective, innovative knowledge management (KM), strategic communications, and training services. KDAD will use innovative means to systematically mobilize and share best practices and lessons learned about the effectiveness of strategies, interventions, and methods to sustainably reduce hunger, poverty and under nutrition across USAID and with other federal partners implementing the Feed the Future (FTF) Initiative.

The KDAD activity will complement Agency-wide learning, evaluation and research activities and will focus on and integrate the following three types of activities:

KM component: Activities will include strengthening of intra-Agency and external knowledge sharing and learning; assessing KM needs; improving the flow of knowledge; and developing systems to curate, display and manage information.

Communications component: Activities will include strengthening the BFS and FTF strategic communications portfolios (internal and external); event coordination and assistance; outreach and engagement support; and strategic communications technical support.

Training component: Activities will include designing courses and course materials; conducting and facilitating in-person and online training; and developing online accessible learning modules.
  
POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Specialist will be the central point of contact for management of the communications component of this project.

Expected responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Responding to task requests.
  • Furnishing to appropriate USAID offices the required central reports.
  • Scheduling and documenting regular meetings with the KDAD COR and activity manager as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • The Communications Specialist shall possess the technical leadership, capability and experience to be able to provide vision, direction, and leadership to support the communications component of the KDAD contract.
  • At minimum, a Master’s degree in communications, journalism, public policy, or related area OR a progressively responsible work experience of 7+ years may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
  • The Communications Specialist shall have no less than five (5) years’ experience managing projects and staff and in the design and implementation of communications activities.
  • The Communications Specialist must have strong written and oral presentation skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Must pay close attention to detail.
  • He/She must be comfortable working with and/or providing guidance on implementation of a range of communications tools, including online platforms and traditional products (such as fact sheets).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of new and traditional communications tools, experience working with press, and public relations work highly desirable.
  • U.S. Government work experience is desired.
  • US Citizen.
