Department

BBC Television is the biggest integrated multimedia broadcast and production group in the world. We’re responsible for commissioning, producing, scheduling and broadcasting the content of all the BBC’s television channels in the UK.

All of our people are dedicated to producing the highest standard content for the BBC’s eight network television channels, as well as a host of other platforms, from online and mobile, to on-demand services. Small wonder, then, that 85% of the UK watches BBC television each week - more than any other broadcaster.

Our culture is very creative, hard-working, fast-paced and flexible. The world of broadcast media is changing and we have to change with it. We need people who will make the most of these opportunities and can help us to continue to produce world-class content for a growing number of platforms and audiences. In return we’ll give you the tools to grow and develop their skills in new areas and ways of working.

BBC Television offers an incredibly diverse range of job and career opportunities, and recruits largely on a fixed-term or freelance contract basis, supported by a core staff of commissioners, executives and producers.

Role

Reporting to the Head of Funding and Commercial in Knowledge and Daytime, you’ll be implementing the funding strategy within a number of Knowledge sub-genres.  Key to your success in the role will be your ability to ensure that commercial and public service funding are managed and balanced in a way that supports and delivers the content strategy within the genre buying model and working plan.
While maximising commercial funding for in-house content in the domestic and international marketplace you will also ensure that the BBC achieves value for money through the negotiation of commercial and public service deals.  At all times you will ensure that funding supports the genre’s supply targets and long term supply relationships.
You will be responsible for tracking and achieving key performance targets – both supply targets and expected income achievable in the market place.
To ensure that key stakeholders are kept fully informed, you will build, maintain and manage first class relationships with key external parties (eg co-producers and other third party funders) and across the BBC - including BBC Worldwide.

Requirements

You will have sound understanding of the relationship between the commissioning, production, broadcasting and new media functions and a keen awareness of the relevant financing arrangements. As this will ensure you secure appropriate commercial support. It’s essential that you have good knowledge of contractual and copyright matters, including rights valuation procedures, strong sales and/or negotiating skills and that you are financially literate with a sound understanding of accountancy principles and practices.
This role requires strong presentation skills and the ability to pitch programmes.
