The Conflict, Humanitarian and Security Operations Team, contracted by Crown Agents but working within and alongside the Department for International Development (DFID) is an established and highly respected team supporting the UK Government in Global Humanitarian Disaster Resilience, Preparedness and Response.

Roles and responsibilities include:
  • Provide technical input on UK funded humanitarian responses and programmes including on intervention review sheets, business cases and project completion reports
  • To provide analytical humanitarian information products to inform DFID and Whitehall officials and input to briefings to politicians including at Cabinet and Prime Ministerial level.
  • Survey and monitor key information networks, proactively communicating, advising and assisting CHASE's disaster response capability.
  • Undertake research, analysis and reporting of specific aspects of humanitarian emergencies and affairs when required.
  • Represent DFID to external and Government partners when required.
  • Be familiar with and able to promote DFID departmental and humanitarian policy including on value for money, transparency and results
  • Undertake monitoring of UK funded humanitarian activities and communicate results of UK funded humanitarian interventions to DFID officials.
  • To provide support to DFID humanitarian preparedness through the preparation of multi hazard risk mapping and assessment activities for country offices considered at extreme or high risk of disasters.
  • To support the development of a quarterly DFID risk report including analysis of risk trends on a global basis.
Essential Qualifications, skills and experience
  • Degree level education in a relevant subject
  • Substantial demonstrable experience of working in humanitarian or operational environment, ideally in a head office and field environment
  • Proven research and analytical skills and proven experience of providing humanitarian information management and reporting during rapid onset humanitarian crises, including surveying and monitoring key information networks, developing and utilising multiple sources to provide information, and developing information products as appropriate to different audiences.
  • Excellent networking and representational skills at all levels, including Government, UN and NGOS
  • Exceptional organisational and prioritisation, and ability to deal with a varied, demanding, often conflicting and rapidly changing workload.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of humanitarian theory, practice and architecture, humanitarian risk assessment and planning and managing humanitarian responses.
  • Willingness to deploy in support of DFID's work in a humanitarian emergency.
