Director of Transportation Engineering (Richmond, VA)

The Richmond Virginia office of The Louis Berger Group, Inc. is seeking a Director of Transportation Engineering with a minimum of 15 years of experience.  The Richmond Virginia office serves clients and projects throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and the southern region of LBG.  Successful candidates will lead in the design engineering and construction engineering / inspection of transportation projects for state and local governments. 
Responsibilities: The Successful candidate is:
Primarily responsible to lead, supervise, and work with designers and professional staff in the development of construction plans, right of way plans, drainage, cost estimation, bid documents, and preparation of proposals in response to various transportation project solicitations (RFQ/RFP)…..   Primary responsibility also includes a leading role in construction engineering/inspection, including support of LBG staff involved in inspection/monitoring activities.
As needed, the successful candidate may also lead or work in a supporting role for the tasks related to the management and operational aspects of the Section/Group.
The successful candidate is further responsible to work in coordination and in support of the efforts of other LBG staff/managers who have leading roles in business development, client support, and pursuit of new business opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
-A BS in Civil Engineering or related field is required
- About 15 years of successful hands on and/or supervisory experience in design/construction of transportation projects.
- Successful experience in supervisor/supporting roles working with other professionals for the development of proposals in response to RFQ/RFP solicitations.
-Broad civil and transportation engineering knowledge and management skills required
-Experience as a project manager for State DOT and Transportation Authority projects is required.
- Virginia professional engineering license required.
-A working knowledge of Microstation and Geopak is required.
-Strong communication skills are required with demonstrated experience in working with a team environment.
- Other requirements include:  constructability review experience, shop drawing approval experience, VDOT design standard experience, VDOT bid document preparation experience, design & design management with the design-build delivery method in Virginia. 
Special Requirements
A valid Virginia driver’s license or the ability to obtain the license within 1 month of hire is required.  A driver’s license records check, criminal history records check, and a fingerprint check are required.  Successful candidates may be required to travel and perform physical duties associated with field assignments as needed.
