Financial Analyst

Since 2002, the Clinton Foundation has been assisting developing countries in implementing large-scale, integrated care, treatment and prevention programs.  Spun-off from the Foundation in 2010, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) takes a business-like approach to addressing operational barriers to program scale-up and to working with manufacturers to lower prices and introduce new products while maintaining high quality standards. 

Summary of Position:
The Budgeting and Reporting Department oversees the organization's budget process and is responsible for overall reporting and financial analysis of the organization's major Initiatives. Reporting directly to the Director of Reporting and Budgeting, a successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the continued development of this new department including the processes necessary to ensure financial accuracy and compliance.

Key measures of success in this role include: timely and accurate reporting on projects costs, variances to budget and forecast, effective partnering with our internal clients and at times with donors, a demonstrated command of the underlying operational and financial content of the projects supported, proactive identification and resolution of the accounting and financial planning issues as well as accuracy and timeliness of financial results and plans. The successful candidate should exhibit attention to details and be proactive in explaining projects costs drivers and discrepancy in costs types.
Responsibilities:
  • Plan and carry out budget procedures including monthly monitoring of organization's expenditures and revenues and communicating monitoring status to management; assisting departments in the preparation of department budgets and budget materials.
  • Recommends budget adjustments, and other cost improvement measures.
  • Support departments to develop proposals budgets.
  • Prepare annual operating plans; quarterly re-forecasting; development of multi-year strategic plans.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of relevant financial reports for internal and external stakeholders and ensure all fund activities are in compliance with the organization and grantor requirements.
  • Analyze complex financial data and extracts and define relevant information; interpret data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability.
  • Reviews costs and performs cost benefit analysis related to projects and/or programs.
  • Develop and maintain budget monitoring models and coordinates production of the formal monitoring report.
  • Prepare financial forecasting, trending, and results analysis.
  • Record, classify, and summarize financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Use various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
  • Develop budgeting and other related financial management policies and facilitate training and sharing good practice with      departments to ensure compliance.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively in support of building a team-based culture of work.
  • Develop a comprehensive knowledge of major program and management issues in the Region(s) and departments they support.
Qualifications:
  • BS/BA in Finance, Accounting, Operations, or related field
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Public Administration (MPA)  is an advantage.
  • 3-5 years of experience; prior experience with an international non-profit/NGO is strongly preferred
  • Strong familiarity with financial systems including but not limited to: Budgeting, Accounting, Microsoft Office, Management      reporting, Expense recording and reporting, Project data bases
  • Advanced MS Excel skills, financial analysis, and financial modeling
  • Dynamic individual with strong, leadership, interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as with a team
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks work in a fast-paced, limited structured environment and demonstrable track record of high performance; high level of independence and motivation required.
