Head of Sales / Retail Thrift Store
In 1990, the first Out of the Closet Thrift Store opened. Today, Out of the Closet stores raise millions of dollars that help fund HIV/AIDS medical care. Our Thrift stores generate additional income for AHF’s Healthcare Services. There are 11 locations throughout Southern California and 5 locations in the San Francisco Bay Area. In addition to regular thrift store operations, several stores also offer free HIV testing and counseling in a separate portion of the store. We are searching for a full-time (temporary) Head of Sales to work in the following Retail Thrift Store: Church Location 100 N. Church Street San Francisco, CA 94114 JOB DESCRIPTION The essential duties and responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned. -Prepares accurate daily cash balance and sales statements prepared by cashiers; submits these to AHF Finance Department on a daily basis. -Responsible for the timely opening and closing of the assigned retail store. -Assists cashiers in completing difficult sales and conducts all transactions with courtesy and efficiency. -Completes cash/ATM, credit or check transactions. Accepts payment, makes change as needed, and issues receipts to customers in absence of cashier. -Promotes the sale of merchandise. -Installs and removes cash register receipt tape (journal tape) and audits cash receipts on a daily basis. -Receives guest complaints and addresses problems to promote and ensure total customer satisfaction. Forwards unresolved issues to the attention of the Group Store Manager and/or the General Manager. -Inspects donations to ensure items are correctly priced and displayed. -Stamps and attaches price tags on merchandise, referring to price list in accordance with store policy. Knows, understands and complies with the merchandise pricing policy for the retail stores. -Maintains correct stock levels, records delivery of donations, compares records with stock ordered, and reports discrepancies to Group Store Manager. Recommends additions to, or deletions of, donations to be sold in retail store. -Orders merchandise, supplies, and equipment under the direction of the Group Store Manager. -Trains stockers and cashiers on OTC policies, procedures, and other job duties. -Assigns duties to stockers, cashiers, floaters, volunteers and community service workers. Coordinates break schedules for assigned staff. -Participates in store layout and merchandise or advertising display in coordination with established visual guidelines and store management. -Receives, opens and unpacks cartons or bags of merchandise. -Assists drivers, driver's assistants and customers in unloading donations. -Wraps or bags merchandise for customers. -Alerts supervisor immediately of any problem or discrepancy (item pricing, customer conflicts, register errors, security or safety issues). -Assists in the general upkeep, appearance and necessary maintenance of the store including but not limited to: emptying waste receptacles, cleaning restrooms, and maintaining the front and back of the store. Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises two to five employees in the retail store. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
