AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is currently seeking an HIV Testing Counselor to join our Public Health Division in the DFW area. This is a full-time employment opportunity. We offer a competitive compensation, excellent benefits and a great work environment! We operate 7 days a week including weekends and holidays. Shift hours are generally between 7pm - 2am.

This position is based on our mobile unit and will require working at different sites through out Dallas and Tarrant Counties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING.
OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.

Understands and implements Public Health Division and local HIV testing operating policies and procedures.

Conducts street outreach activities distributing marketing materials as needed to promote testing services.

Elicits from clients HIV risk history including, but not limited to, demographic information, sex history, drug and alcohol use, and past STD infections.

Administers fingerstick and/or oral tests to detect HIV antibodies.

Collects and processes specimen samples in accordance with national, state and local guidelines.

Provides health education and individual risk reduction counseling sessions.

Promotes healthy sexual behaviors and praises risk reduction plans adopted by clients.

Conducts test result disclosure and counseling as needed and required.

Offer clients local community and medical referrals as needed.

Documents all required information for reporting purposes.

Other duties may be assigned as needed.

PARTICIPATION IN AHF MEETINGS/COMMITTEES
Attends testing counselors meetings.
Attends all staff meetings.
Attends other meetings as assigned.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
Must be available to work weekday evenings (6pm to 3am), weekends and holidays.
Sensitivity to the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Skilled in communicating openly on sexual topics without prejudice.
Ability to be able to work with diverse populations, i.e. drug users, sex workers, LGBT.
Must have reliable transportation.
Must be able to drive the mobile testing unit (MTU) to different cities and counties in Texas.
Must be able to maintain client confidentiality as required by law.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES
Current Texas HIV Pre and Post Test Counselor Certification.
Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
Clean driving record with a minimum of 5 years driving history required.
Current phlebotomy experience/certification and medical assistant experience/certification preferred.
