AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) is currently seeking an HIV Testing Counselor to join our Public Health Division in San Francisco. This is a full-time employment opportunity. We offer a competitive compensation, excellent benefits and a great work environment! We operate 7 days a week including weekends and holidays. Shift hours are generally between 10am-7pm.

This position is based in the Bay Area and will require working at different sites through out the City of San Francisco and the East Bay.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING.
OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED.

•Understands and implements operating policies and procedures.

•Elicits from clients HIV risk history including, but not limited to, demographic information, sex history, drug and alcohol use, and past STD infections.

•Administers oral and/or fingerstick tests to detect HIV antibodies.

•Collects and processes specimen samples in accordance with National, State, and Local guidelines.

•Provides health education and individual risk reduction counseling sessions.

•Promotes healthy sexual behaviors and praises risk reduction plans adopted by clients.

•Conducts test result disclosure and post disclosure counseling as needed and required.

•Offer clients local community and medical referrals as needed.

•Documents all required information for reporting purposes.

•Other duties may be requested as needed.

PARTICIPATION IN AHF MEETINGS/COMMITTEES
•Attends testing counselors meeting.
•Attends other meetings as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES/QUALIFICATIONS
•Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
•Must be primarily available to work on weekdays and weekends in the evening hours.
•Must have the ability to work with diverse populations (drug addicts, sex workers, LGBT).
•Sensitivity to the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS.
•Ability to work with minimal supervision.
•Skill in communicating openly on sexual topics without prejudice.
•Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES
Current San Francisco/Alamdea County or California State HIV Pre and Post Test Counselor Certification.
Current phlebotomy certification preferred.

SALARY RANGE
$15-$18/hr based on experience
