Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Understands and implements operating policies and procedures.
• Conducts HIV Pre and Post Test Counseling.
• Elicits from clients HIV risk history including, but not limited to, demographic information, sex history, drug and alcohol use, and past STD infections.
• Administers oral or fingerstick tests to detect HIV antibodies.
• Collects and processes specimen samples in accordance with National, State, and Local guidelines.
• Provides health education and individual risk reduction counseling sessions.
• Promotes healthy sexual behaviors and praises risk reduction plans adopted by clients.
• Conducts test result disclosure and post disclosure counseling as needed and required.
• Offer clients local community and medical referrals as needed.
• Documents all required information for reporting purposes.
• Ability to work with multicultural and diverse population.
• Other duties may be requested as needed.

Participation in AHF Meetings/Committees
Attends testing counselors meeting.
Attends other meetings as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Computer/Software Skills & Abilities
Should have knowledge of Word Processing software.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret guidelines such as safety rules, universal precautions, operating and maintenance instructions, and program manuals. Ability to document extensive reports accurately. Ability to speak effectively in a group setting.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Abilities
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

Travel
Travel may be required during the regular schedule up to 50% of the time requiring overnight stay.

Other Skills and Qualifications
• Bilingual (Spanish/English/Creole) strongly preferred.
• Sensitivity to the issues surrounding HIV and AIDS.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Skill in communicating openly on sexual topics without prejudice.
• Must be primarily available to work on weekday, evenings, and weekends.
• Must have reliable transportation with liability insurance.
• Must be able to drive to different testing sites.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
• Current Florida HIV Pre and Post Test Counselor Certification (HIV 500/501).
• OralQuick and Clearview rapid test Certifications preferred.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
• Current Certification in Phlebotomy desirable but not required.
