PHD POSITION: NUMERICAL METHODS FOR ULTIMATE TURBULENCE SIMULATIONS

The Cluster of Applied Analysis and Computational Science (AACS) of the Department of Applied Mathematics, University of Twente, invites outstanding candidates to apply for this PhD position, to work on massively parallel numerical algorithms for simulating turbulent flows.
This project is part of a close collaboration with Physics groups at TUD, TUE and UT, aimed at experimental and computational analysis of ultimate regimes in turbulent flows. The PhD student will work under the guidance of Prof. Bernard Geurts (thesis promotor) and Dr. Mike Botchev.

Uw profiel
The applicants are expected to have
  • MSc (or comparable) degree in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Mechanical, Chemical or Civil Engineering
  • strong background in Numerical Mathematics and Computational Science, high motivation in doing research in the field of Numerical Methods
  • excellent programming skills in Fortran 95/2003, experience with MPI.

We offer a very challenging position in an inspiring multidisciplinary and international environment. As a PhD candidate you will be offered a full-time (38 hours/week) position for four years, after which you should have completed your PhD thesis.

You will be employed by FOM. The employment regulations of FOM are laid down in the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Research Institutes  and the Implementation Regulations,  the gross monthly salary for a PhD increases from € 2062 in the first year to € 2638 in the final year plus a holiday allowance (8%), an end-year bonus (8.3% of the annual salary) and a number of additional benefits.
