Job Summary

​Cardno TEC, Inc. is currently recruiting for a full-time Desktop/Laptop Technician to be based in Salt Lake City, UT. The Desktop/Laptop Technician will provide software and hardware support, training, and troubleshooting in a networked microcomputer environment. This position will provide support on a wide range of applications including Microsoft Office and other business related applications.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots a wide range of software and hardware used throughout the company.
  • Performs hardware/software upgrades to existing computer equipment as needed.
  • As a member of the help desk services staff, responds to software problem calls on site or over the phone for users. Investigates error messages and determines resolution.
  • Reinstalls program or replaces files that are causing errors.
  • Calls software vendor or accesses on line technical support to obtain software update. Also responds to network logon calls.
  • Investigates appropriate areas of potential problems and determines resolution.
  • Provides Windows network support company-wide which includes installing networked application software, granting access to users, creating user groups, managing shared resources, installing peripherals, and configuring computers for security, including setting up batch files and making specific files read only.
  • Trains users in startup, basic, and advanced use of software programs.
  • Maintains up-to-date expertise in the operation and application of the company standard microcomputer software and a working knowledge of a wide variety of commonly used hardware and software.
  • Performs other related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position.

Other Requirements

Minimum Qualifications Required:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Basic understanding of PC hardware
  • Ability to exercise professional discretion and judgment
  • Excellent spoken and written English communication
  • 1 year of experience in an IT support roll or equivalent higher education
Training and Experience:
  • Working knowledge of Windows, MS Office, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Understanding of installation, configuration, and troubleshooting processes for software, hardware, and accessory equipment
  • Must possess sufficient analytical skills to assess problems or unusual situations and develop solutions
  • Working knowledge of how to assemble and disassemble personal computer components including cabling is preferred

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
