Legal Advisor (Environment)

We are looking for a legal advisor with a strong EU law background for an immediate position to support our busy staff. We are currently carrying out a range of challenging projects for our clients, including studies on particular topics related to environmental law and policy. The legal associate will work closely with the other 20 plus lawyers on our staff to carry out a range of legal research and analysis. The position will also include some project management, including quality assurance for the work carried out by our junior lawyers and external experts and support for business development activities.

Key tasks will include: 

• Support to development and writing of project proposals, including liaising with partners and structuring budgets
• Management of complex legal/policy research and analysis projects from their inception to their completion, including:
• liaising with clients and internal and external experts
• ensuring that work deliverables meet the client’s requirements and quality objectives
• ensuring that deadlines are met
• financial oversight
• Mentoring junior staff and assuring the quality of the work carried out by our junior lawyers and external experts
• Taking responsibility for collaborative work opportunities, project delivery and project profitability

Key qualifications and skills for the position for the position:

• At least a higher university degree in law.
• Good knowledge of EU legislation and/or strong exposure to the EU institutions.
• Specific expertise in environment/climate change/energy law is an asset.
• Proven  experience in carrying out multi-country comparative studies and      substantial legal analysis.
• Minimum 4 years prior work experience. 
• Excellent spoken and written English; knowledge of other languages an asset. 
• An independent, self-starting personality with a commitment to quality.
• Well-organised,  practical-minded and able to prioritise a busy and varied workload. 
• Good writing skills
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word
