Sabbatical and Maternity Cover – fixed-term to May 2014
Working for Oxfam will open up the world to you and enrich your career in a way that no other poverty charity can do. Finding lasting solutions to poverty means putting together the strongest campaigns possible. And by providing the evidence we need to look ahead, plan strategically and maximise their impact, you’ll make sure we’re doing the right thing at the right time for the right people - shaping the direction and quality of our work across Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC).
The role
From public investment in small-scale producers, to food, gender and climate justice; our programmes aim to put a stop to ongoing issues across LAC. And working closely with Oxfam’s programme team to research into the evolving situation, you’ll use your in-depth insight to design and implement capacity building initiatives that will be central to our success. That means playing a lead role in delivering to regional policy-advocacy priorities – managing on-going projects, building partner relationships and developing new plans. It also means driving a more integrated approach to campaigning and advocacy work through high quality analysis and better engagement with our target audiences. Succeed, and you’llhelp to raise our concerns, influence policies and practices and ensure our aims and objectives are firmly on the political agenda.
What we’re looking for
To rise to this challenge, you’ll need research, campaigning and advocacy experience in issues relating to the LAC region. Experience which has developed your understanding of key political, economic and social trends. With big ideas about development, economic, gender, humanitarian and poverty issues, you’ll have no problem producing and working from high quality research. And of course, fluency in English and Spanish is essential. Just as important, however, will be your inspirational leadership skills and outstanding relationship development capabilities. After, this role is very much about mobilising teams, external partners, colleagues and supervisors to bring about positive change.
About Oxfam
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. Poverty isn´t inevitable, it´s just plain wrong. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
