Senior Program Communication Manager

The world is changing rapidly. Front-running companies are advancing their competitiveness by making sustainability their core business. The IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative helps to accelerate and upscale sustainability within mainstream international commodity markets. We build ambitious public private coalitions of companies, civil society organizations and governments and high-impact programs in order to benefit people, planet and profit.
We are currently implementing the Sustainable Trade Action Plan 2011-2015, partnering with over 350 companies, 60 NGO’s and numerous governmental organizations. The companies have committed to invest in their supply chains to make production and trade more sustainable. Current programs include cocoa, tea, soy, cotton, timber, natural stone, aquaculture and electronics, while new programs are in development.
IDH is a dynamic organization of about 45 staff members based in Utrecht, The Netherlands. In the last year IDH has expanded its activities and now runs around 100 projects through 18 commodity programs, together with internationally operating companies and several implementing partners.
In the last year IDH has scaled up and launched several new commodity sector programs. To support these developments IDH is recruiting a:
Senior Program Communication Manager
Together with the Senior Communication Manager you are pro-actively formulating, developing and implementing program communication activities that support the up-scaling of IDH commodity programs.  Program communication strategies are developed together with the IDH Program Directors.
IDH is looking for an experienced, hands  on multi-stakeholder communication specialist with a strong vision on complicated strategies. You are an excellent process manager, a native English speaker and are able to tailor communication instruments to different audiences, balance interests of stakeholders such as companies, governments, financial institutions and civil society organizations.
Job profile
Reporting to the Director of International Public Affairs, this role has four key areas:
1. Responsibility for the development and execution  of communication strategies and activities of a selection of pillar programs;
2.  Providing innovation in ideas and approaches;
3. Accountability for close liaison on communication issues across the organization, including advising Program Directors, and Program and Learning Managers.
4. To support the other members of the Program, Learning and Operational teams as required contributing to effective relationship management with partners and stakeholders.
The position is in principle permanent with an initial contract for one year.
Responsibilities
1. Communication strategy
• Ensures the development, implementation and execution of IDH sector specific communication strategies and activities.
• Responsibility to maintain a working knowledge of comparable commodity supply chain initiatives to ensure a comprehensive understanding of communication best practice.
2. Communication materials
• Develops and coordinates (and/or produces) program specific communication materials (including presentations, events, PR, digital media).
• Supports the development of corporate documents such as annual plans and progress reports.
• Initiates and supports the maintenance of a credible on line presence that provides all stakeholders with access to the information that they need.
3. Stakeholder management
• Develops effective alliances and manages relations with (international) press and media.
• Provides actionable communication support to colleagues for adequate relationship management at program and corporate level.
4. Networking
• Supports the maintenance and expansion of the IDH network and donor base, supporting colleagues doing similar work and contributing to the further strategic development of IDH.
• Supports sharing knowledge and outcomes externally from the organization through events and congresses.
Requirements
• Master’s degree in communications, public relations or equivalent field
• Experience of communications planning and working at a senior level
• Hands on mentality
• Ability to think creatively and in contributing to our communication that encompasses stakeholder engagement and international media outreach
• Affinity with and knowledge of supply chain sustainability, international trade and development cooperation
• Ability to work accurately and reliably under pressure to tight deadlines
• Awareness of media and political issues
• Native English language skills; Dutch and other languages are a plus
• Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of working in a team
• Bringing in an international media network
Conditions

The position is for 32-40 hours per week. We offer a gross salary of € 3600 - € 4600 per month (full-time equivalent), depending on seniority and experience, with solid fringe benefits and a good pension scheme.
