We're recruiting for a Senior Economic Adviser, to join our Fair Trading team, based in London. This role offers a unique opportunity for providing economic and Fair Trading advice and having oversight of key divisional and pan-BBC business initiatives.  Our team is part of the BBC Legal Division, playing a pivotal role in ensuring that whenever the BBC is involved in trading activities (either through its Public Service Groups or its Commercial Subsidiaries) it does so in a way that is in line with the BBC’s fair trading obligations.
With a good understanding of the principles of competition economics and the changing media environment, you’ll provide economic and Fair Trading advice to BBC management, contributing to pan-BBC strategic initiatives and policy formation.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need substantial experience of working within a professional service and/or business development role and of applying economics in a regulatory or competition environment.   A high level of understanding of current UK and EU competition policy, and how it is applied to the communications industries is key.  This will be combined with professional experience of economic analysis covering competition policy, supported by experience in the public sector, a major company or consultancy. The ability to operate in a public policy environment is also required and you’ll have a firm understanding of the media sector and possess the necessary skills to operate with senior managers within the BBC and to work with those affected by the BBC, across the full range of media industries.
