Organizational Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Executive Office of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and Department of Field Support. The intern will report to the Senior Human Resources Officer and Human Resources Officers. The internship is for 3 to 6 months depending on the needs of the office. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours).
Responsibilities
The intern's role will be to assist Human Resources Officers with the recruitment of various positions in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations and Department of Field Support. Specific tasks may include: organizing and evaluating candidate applications, coordinating written assessments and interviews, recording interview notes and inputing information in various recruitment databases. The intern will also have an opportunity to shadow Human Resources Officers in the Executive Office to learn more about UN human resources rules, regulations, procedures and practices and participate in a variety of projects. Additional tasks may be assigned on as needed basis.

Education
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate school or if pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and graduate stages, have completed four years of full time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a degree.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal committment to the ideals of the Charter; and have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Educational background or exposure to human resources related issues is desirable.
Work Experience
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.
Languages
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
