The Organisation

BG Group is a founding member of Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B. V. (KPO) which oversees the development of the giant Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field in the northwest of Kazakhstan. Karachaganak covers an area of more than 280 square kilometres with estimated gross reserves of over 2.4 billion barrels of condensate and 16 trillion cubic feet of gas. The Karachaganak field is one of the biggest internationally-funded and most technologically challenging projects in Kazakhstan.

Position Summary

The change over for Operations Director is planned for March 2015.
 
The Operations Director in KPO (Aksai, Kazakhstan) will define the technical policy and manage technical development; define methods of reconstruction and technical re-equipment of the current business, level of specialisation and diversification of production to make it efficient and profitable. Work pattern is 6/2.

Key Accountabilities

The Operations Director is accountable for:
  • Managing all reporting departments and coordinating the work of the Directorate.
  • Ensuring proper fitting-out of operations, increasing production efficiency, cost saving (material, financial, labour), and rational use of production resources, high quality and competitiveness of production, compliance of production to current state and international standards.
  • Supervision reconstruction and modification of the production units in accordance with the approved company business plans; supervision of the work on prevention of detrimental impact of production on environment; supervision of careful use of natural resources; establishing safe working environment and promoting technical culture. Organization of planning and implementation of application of new techniques.
  • Ensuring efficiency of new projects, duly and qualitative preparedness of the plants, technical operation, maintenance and modification of equipment, promotion of better quality of the products.
  • Based on latest and technical achievements, Operations Director shall organise work on improvement of quality, development and application of advanced techniques, control and testing of specialised equipment, development of material saving and cost reduction methods.
  • Controlling and ensuring compliance with HSSE and technical procedures and norms, environmental and sanitary norms.
  • Ensuring duly preparation of technical documentation.
  • Control of work (along with other external entities and authorities) on development of new techniques and equipment, projects on reconstruction, renovation and modification of equipment, application of advanced methods on production processes, automated control systems; shall supervise contract fulfilment and shall review and arrange technical re-equipment projects developed by third parties.
  • Coordination of work on patent and inventive work, unification, standardisation and certifications, work place assessments and rational use, metrological supplies, mechanical and power services for the production activities.
  • Ensuring that appropriate training and development of personnel is arranged and continuous development of the personnel is monitored.
  • Leading technical operations; controlling work results of production services, and labour discipline in the relevant divisions.
  • Deputizing for General Director in accordance with established procedure.     
  • Every individual has a duty to both themselves and those around them to ensure that safe practice is adhered to at all times. In addition to any specific accountabilities for HSSE, all managers are accountable for HSSE within their area of the Business and are responsible for ensuring that their team adopt exemplary HSSE behaviours.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute

Work Permit Requirements:
  • Higher technical education (University degree or higher) in the relevant speciality
  • Senior management experience
  • It is preferable to have Master of Business Administration or additional qualification in management
Experience Needed:
  • Having been held accountable for and successfully performed in a significant Operations leadership role
  • Successfully managed shareholders relations, including Partners and Authorities
  • Leading and developing people in a multi-cultural environment
Specialist Knowledge/Skills/Languages:
  • Possess a recognised academic qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • Has the knowledge of: legislative and other statutory acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan regulating production, economic and financial activities of the company, resolutions of the authorities that define economics priorities; perspectives of technical, economical and social development of the company; production capacities; production engineering ;scientific and technical achievements and experience of leading companies in the relevant activity; labour safety norms and procedure, subsurface experience would be an advantage.
  • Safety leadership skills
  • Stakeholder relationship skills in a complex multi partner organization
