Exploration activities and the work programme are managed centrally through our organisation with Exploration Managers across the group reporting in to two Exploration General Managers, who in turn report to the Executive Vice President, Exploration.

Position Summary

An expert advisory role primarily optimising land and marine seismic acquisition and site survey operations, which requires strong communication skills to liaise with Geoscientists, Well Engineering and Drillers whilst adhearing to BG Subsurface Policies and Standards. 

The ability to become involved in the supervision of processing projects would be an advantage
.

Key Accountabilities

Acts as Operational focus for Geophysical Acquisition Projects
- Provides expert Marine Seismic Operations and Site Survey advice and consultancy, typically for an asset. 
- Interprets Assets geophysical goals within seismic operations context. 
- Delivers seismic operations on time and within budget to the highest standards. - Leads geophysical survey operations. 
- Accountable for driving the implementation of geophysical and site survey technical standards 
- Leads by example and proactively manages HSSE. Ensuring that contractors and those involved in geophysical operations employ exemplorary HSSE behaviours and that safe practices are adhered to at all times.
- Accountable for defining and delivering the project-specific work scopes within geophysical work programmes, ensuring full implementation of all applicable BG Group Policies and Standards.

BG Advance point-of-contact to support BG Asset Geophysicist with Geophysical Data Acquisition with responsibility for solutions, budgeting, sceduling and advice on market trends

Project management of Geophysical Operations - the focal point for planning and pro-actively managing HSSE, Auditing and daily operations of BG's worldwide geophysical data acquisition (with specific expertise in Marine Operations preferably including OBC and Site Surveys). 

Survey Planning and optimisation of acquisition parameters in relationship to processing objectives.

Preparation of Scope of Work and definition of technical specifications.

Tender analysis and contract negotiations - identification of contractor suitibility, vessel/equipment availability and duration.

Ensuring compliance with local and international standards, permitting, managing exrternal relationships (NGO, fishing, military etc).

Coordinations and applications of surface seismic acquisition logistics including with other surveys, drilling, partners, etc

Ensuring best practise for in-field - QA/QC for geophysical acquisition operations, provision of technical expertise and focal point for start up meetings

Monitoring, control and reporting of costs and quality - contractor and client rep point of contact.

Introduction of new Geophysics acquisition technology.

Functional point-of-contact to support BG Asset Geophysicist for drilling hazards and site survey programs.

Liaise with Assets/Well Engineering/Site Survey Management to define/refine site survey operations.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute

Experience Needed:
-Extensive experience in the Geophysical Industry, ideally including a period working for a major seismic contractor in the field - either on land or marine, but probably in a technical lead role.
- Demonstrable commitment to HSSE and knowledge of HSSE systems
- Able to demonstrate detailed technical knowledge of field equipment

Specialist Knowledge/
Skills:
An experienced geophysicist, educated to MSc or PhD level or equivalent work experience.

Significant knowledge of current techniques and best practices in operation geophysics.

Previous involvement as technical lead or with experience of working largely unsupervised on several projects.

Thorough understanding of HSSE systems

Experience of acquiring and designing multiple seismic surveys in a variety of environments, with broad knowledge of the seismic market.

Experience leading a small team with budgetary responsibility and ideally broader commercial awareness of the business.

Strong personal and industry network 

Processing experience

Able to coach and mentor relevant technical staff.

Excellent presentation skills and clear and convincing report writing ability. 

Proven skills in time and project management.

Must be effective operating in a matrix team structure.

Needs to be behaviourally intelligent and highly skilled at stakeholder management and understand how to influence them.
