Chief Executive

Location: London

CDC Group plc is the UK's development finance institution. Owned by the UK government's Department for International Development (DFID), the company's mission is to be a pioneering investor, stimulating the private sector and demonstrating the power of enterprise and private capital to reduce poverty in the poorest parts of the world.

CDC is one element of the UK's endeavour to help people in developing countries prosper. As an FSA-regulated plc with its own board, CDC's relationship with DFID is arm's length yet collaborative.

CDC is recruiting a new Chief Executive to drive a radical new strategy to foster economic development and broad-based, inclusive and sustainable growth in poor countries. The successful candidate will:

  • Lead the company in the next phase of its evolution, putting capital to work with flexibility and creativity where it is most needed in the poorer countries and regions of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
  • Spearhead CDC's ambition to achieve the greatest possible development impact, applying rigorous developmental and commercial appraisal techniques.
  • Champion the organisation and its mission on the international private sector development stage and be a compelling advocate for the power of enterprise.

This is a role for an outstanding and experienced individual with a deep commitment to global development and a belief in the power of the private sector to drive poverty reduction. The successful candidate will have:

  • Exceptional personal and organisational leadership qualities;
  • Proven change-management experience;
  • A successful track record in international operations, ideally in emerging markets;
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills; and
  • Experience of one or more of banking, private equity, fund of funds, direct equity or direct debt investing, ideally in emerging markets.
