The Position

The Executive Director is responsible for the establishing and growing the NGS Global Exploration Fund in Northern Europe (including the Nordic, Baltic and North Sea-coast countries) based out of Stockholm. Working in close collaboration with National Geographic Mission Programs in Washington DC, National Geographic media, and local partners, the Executive Director will draw on past experience in project management, business administration, partner management, and communications to oversee a regional exploration and conservation grant and outreach program, based out of Sweden.

Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing a communications/local engagement strategy to market the grant program to target applicants, informing key stakeholders of the program?s performance and identifying new partners and sources of funding. You will work closely with National Geographic management and communications teams and serve as liaison for the program to professional organizations, local media, and National Geographic media in the United States and Northern Europe.

The Executive Director will manage the Program Officer, who is charged with the Fund's grant-giving administration. The role will require frequent travel (c. 25 percent).

The Sought Candidate

We believe that you have several years' experience in a leadership role, including people and operations management. You have successfully launched significant projects/programs/organizations and shown an ability to forge strong relationships at senior VIP levels. Having worked with science and conservation issues is considered an additional merit. Your passionate involvement in the Fund is expected.

Formal background
- Degree in management, marketing, or communications and at least 10 years experience in a related field
- Experience in planning and delivering budgetary responsibilities and legal compliances
- Experience working with a diverse group of stakeholders
- Experience securing and maintaining 6-7 figure funders
- Fluency in English
- Background in the sciences or conservation issues preferred

Personal skills
- Very strong communication and presentation skills
- Solid networker; at all levels within and outside the organization
- Proven analytical and strategic ability
