Occupational Health Programme Manager

The Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC) was stablished in terms of Section 41 (1) of the Mine Health & Safety Act, 1996 (Act 29 of 1996) to advise the Minister of Mineral Resources on national health and safety policy and research in the mining industry. The Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC) seeks to make the following appointments:

Occupational Health Programme Manager

The incumbent will provide technical and management support for occupational health research projects aimed at improving health and safety conditions in South African mines.

Minimum requirements: · A credible and versatile senior professional with a proven background in the management of occupational health research projects • Relevant experience in and exposure to Occupational Health and Safety conditions in the mining industry • Project management skills, ie ethics of research • A relevant postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health (minimum Master's degree) • At least 10 years' working experience in the field of Occupational Medicine and Occupational Hygiene, preferably in the mining industry • Sound interpersonal and presentation skills • The ability to function as an equitable and impartial team member • The ability to operate without direct supervision and accept responsibility and accountability.

Key performance areas: · Solicit research proposals and monitor contractual conformance • Audit quality and technical aspects • Co-ordinate with researchers and stakeholders • Monitor and report on the progress and impact of the research programme on occupational health and safety risk, with a view to maintaining the focus of research programme evaluation • Perform activities related to the transfer of technology and research results
• Manage the performance of the project, as well as Research Contractors. (Ref. 77473/1)
