WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week

SALARY: *Ordinarily Resident (OR): R$ 80.850,00 p.a. (Starting salary) (Position Grade: FSN-10)

*Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): US$ 56,323.00 p.a. (Starting salary) (Position Grade: FP-5)

The U.S. Embassy in Brasilia is seeking an individual for the position of Engineering Inspector in the Office Building Operation Agency (OBO).

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Incumbent provides a range of professional office engineering and inspection services during the design and construction phases of the Embassy renovation project.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

EDUCATION: University or college degree in construction, architecture or in any major engineering discipline is required.

EXPERIENCE: responsible experience in engineering services, construction work or construction inspection/supervision is required.

LANGUAGE: Level III (Good Working Knowledge) in speaking/reading English and Level IV (Fluent) in speaking/reading Portuguese are required. Language proficiency will be tested.

KNOWLEDGE: Thorough knowledge of construction, testing and finishes; good general knowledge of local building codes and requirements. Must be able to review and interpret construction documents, drawings and specifications; be familiar with office and construction administration duties and safety practices.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to educate others in the performance of manual work related to trades and crafts; to apply engineering theory to practical field; to work effectively with a diverse team of professionals; to apply common sense interpretation to carry out instructions received from the project supervisor. User’s ability working with Word, Excel and other software related to construction and operations functions such as AutoCAD or equivalent ones. Must have a local driver’s license category B. Typing Level I (15-29wpm).

Testing may be conducted to determine qualifications.

SELECTION PROCESS

When fully qualified, U. S. Citizen Eligible Family Members (USEFMs) and U.S. Veterans are given preference. Therefore, it is essential that the candidate specifically address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, continuity and residency status in determining successful candidacy.

2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.

3. Current Ordinarily Resident employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory on their most recent Employee Performance Report are not eligible to apply. Please submit your most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR).

4. Currently employed US Citizen EFMs who hold a Family Member Appointment (FMA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment.

5. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personal Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
