Principal or Senior Banker, Municipal and Environmental Infrastructure, southern and eastern Mediterranean

This is a defining point in the history of the southern and eastern Mediterranean (SEMED). It’s also a pivotal time for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). We’re expanding into the region, ensuring the stable economic growth demanded by the people who live here. It’s a unique moment – and you can be part of it.

About the role
Our Municipal and Environmental Infrastructure (MEI) team finances projects that range from water and urban transport to waste management and district heating. You’ll help spearhead the expansion of its work across the SEMED region – starting with Morocco and Tunisia. The MEI sector is a priority area for us, so this is a critical role. You’ll develop a pipeline of new public and PPP projects, leading on their structuring and closing using a full range of financing structures. At the same time, you’ll help with their implementation and make sure they’re closely monitored. It means building strong client, government, municipal and private sector contacts as well as getting involved in policy dialogue with public and regulatory authorities as you promote our transition objectives. On top of this, you’ll work hard to maximise our visibility among potential sources of grants.

About you
You’ll bring us substantial relevant experience in project and corporate finance lending or equity investments, gained with a major international financial organisation. You’ll have a strong background in infrastructure sector restructuring, commercialisation and privatisation and in leading operations in emerging markets. And you’ll have proved your worth across the full project lifecycle. We’ll also look for first-hand exposure to the SEMED region, including knowledge of local financial products, plus a good understanding of the financial aspects of investments. Fluent in French or Arabic, you’ll be culturally sensitive too with strong planning, problem-solving and relationship-building skills.

About us
Owned by 61 countries, the European Union and the European Investment Bank, the EBRD supports projects whose funding needs cannot be fully met by the market. We have operations in 29 countries from Central Europe to Central Asia and we are currently expanding into the southern and eastern Mediterranean. Our work covers a huge variety of sectors and projects. And while each one of them is unique in the challenges it presents, all share the common goals of encouraging private investment and promoting secure and stable market economies.
