Regional Senior Permitting Specialist United States-Utah-Salt Lake City

Responsibilities include: The successful candidate will assist in the implementation of major/significant permitting efforts for Barrick North America operations. The incumbent will assist with the implementation of the region’s permitting strategy and provide direction and supervision of regional permitting staff. The incumbent will interface as necessary with public and governmental agencies on permitting matters in the North American region.

Duties include but not limited to the following:
• Work closely with the regional Manager of Permitting to implement the region’s permitting strategy. Supervision and professional development of permitting staff to support permitting applications and provide direction and expertise throughout the permitting process.
• Provide leadership, act as a mentor for subordinates and assist with the facilitation of the development and effectiveness of the company’s environmental programs and policies as they relate to permitting.
• Ensure that environmental permitting for all assigned projects is moved forward expeditiously and responsibly.
• Provide direction and expertise as necessary in the timely permitting of projects resulting in permits in the best interest of Barrick.
• Develop and maintain a clear and open line of communication with the regional Permitting Manager and environmental personnel at mine sites regarding environmental permitting issues and actions.
• Provide permitting expertise to management to provide awareness of pending or future environmental issues that may impact the permitting process and organization.

SELECTION CRITERIA

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered for this job, applicants must meet these basic requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, such as Environmental, Mining, Geological or other Engineering or Science discipline required
• Minimum of 10 years experience in a position with responsibilities for environmental permitting of mining operations required. Experience with NEPA and permitting in Nevada required
• Experience in environmental programs including regulatory compliance, air quality, water quality, geochemistry, hydrology and cultural resources are preferred
• Successful professional environmental work with state and federal regulatory agencies required
• Must have a confident, professional demeanor and presence to effectively command attention and respect from a diverse audience, both internally and externally required
• Must have the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously required
• Supervisory experience preferred
