We seek a self-motivated, results-orientated individual with a National Diploma (Light Current) or N6 with Instrumentation Trade Test and 2 years’ experience in an Instrumentation department with a sound knowledge of instrumentation. Registration with ECSA would be advantageous. Good communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills are essential, along with computer literacy in MS Office. The successful candidate must be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at Gold Fields Occupational Centre and, if necessary, pass a heat tolerance screening test.


Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating daily ore transport, conveyances and reports
  • Overseeing programming and maintenance of PLC control (Siemens TI 505 and Modicon)
  • Overseeing programming and maintenance of SCADA package (Wonderware Intouch)
  • Overseeing maintenance of all network requirements as per instrumentation layouts for SCADA, seismic and general process control (Ethernet and RS485)
  • Keeping record of all legal requirements and calibrations
  • Performing daily inspections, risk assessments and PTOs
  • Investigating new technology and reporting to the Engineering Superintendent: Control and Instrumentation
