Unit Manager: Engineering – Trackless


The successful candidate must be in possession of a relevant Engineering diploma or degree (Mechanical or Electrical) with a Government Certificate of Competency and at least 3 years’ experience in a trackless environment as an Engineer. He/she will be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre, and must pass a heat tolerance screening test. A proven track record in the mechanisation of previously manual tasks, development of new technology and the project management thereof for adoption into the current and future mining environment and a maintenance management qualification would be advantageous.



Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring and improving the health and safety of the people and conditions in the mine as per the Mine’s vision
  • Ensuring the effective availability and utilisation of trackless equipment
  • Developing and leading the team in all aspects of people management
  • Ensuring the maintenance of targets are met with optimum operating performance
  • Ensuring that production equipment, including trackless machines, conform to all legal requirements
  • Actively participating in maintaining the requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act and safety regulations of the mine and developing new processes and technology to be used in the future mining processes at South Deep.
