Assistant Director - Investigation

As the independent regulator for doctors in the UK, the GMC works to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public by ensuring proper standards in the practice of medicine.

As the Assistant Director – Investigations, you will be responsible for running a large team that deals with high volumes of casework. This casework relates to issues that may call into question a doctor’s fitness to practise.

It will be your responsibility to make sure that each case is handled with the utmost care and attention and is dealt with in a timely and appropriate way 0 in-line with our published service standards.

Our casework can be very complex and you will be personally involved in handling some of our most sensitive and high profile cases. You will also play an important role in leading and giving guidance to managers and staff within the team to ensure that they are focused on delivering a high quality service. All this in addition to carefully managing your budget and contributing to the wider management of the directorate alongside other senior members of the team.

Your solid understanding of regulation and extensive operational management experience will mean that you are quickly able to get to grips with our legal framework, procedures and processes. Alongside your people management skills perhaps the most important factor will be your feel for handling our casework in a way that never overlooks the importance of it to those who have raised concerns, to doctors and the general public.

Fairness, equality of treatment and transparency must always be at the heart of everything that we do.

So, we are not saying this is an easy job but, for the right person, this is a hugely interesting and challenging role and a chance to make a real difference.

In return for your can-do attitude and commitment we offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
