Communications officer – Environmental Governance Team


Job Purpose

To shape and deliver change-making communication of Global Witness Environmental Governance work by;

• Providing communications expertise, input and direct delivery of Global Witness’s Environmental Governance campaign asks

• Playing a leading role in the development and implementation of Global Witness’s Environmental Governance communications strategy

• Capacity building GW team and civil society partners on communications and outreach of EG campaigns

• Ability to account for the communications impact in line with campaign strategy


The Communications Officer will be required to provide a holistic range of communications expertise to Global Witness’ Environmental Governance team and its civil society partners. S/he will engage with, understand, analyse and effectively communicate the full range of issues relevant to the team, providing daily input into the range of products the team produces. The role will also be required, on the basis of knowledge of relevant national and international developments and debates, to develop, and work with the team to implement, a strategic, impact-focused communications strategy that will help advance Global Witness’s campaigning goals. The role may also include communications capacity building of Global Witness’s civil society partners.


The role is varied and will involve: being a key source of information for key press – providing briefings when necessary, drafting and editing a range of materials relevant to different audiences, provide practical input and advice on using different products to communicate to different audiences, develop and maintain contacts with key international and national press, carry out day to day press work including dealing with press enquiries, draft media products and sell in stories, assist and advise campaigners on how to use different media to disseminate their messages, promote their objectives and influence their key targets.
