Executive Producer, Newsgathering (Washington, DC)

We have an immediate opening for Executive Producer to work in our Washington DC Broadcast Centre. The Executive Producer is the most senior figure in the news team. This individual makes the most crucial daily editorial decisions, exercises strong editorial judgment, and rules on issues of taste and decency. The Executive Producer has final say in the newsroom on what is broadcast based upon Al Jazeera's editorial guidelines. It is a key leadership position affecting coverage and content around the world. The position requires an individual with the ability: To have overall responsibility for content of rolling 24-hour news To make decisions on taste and decency of content. To make decisions on legality of content, in association with AJE’s legal adviser To issue editorial direction to the entire news team – in the office and the field To check scripts for factual accuracy, editorial content and legality To liaise with correspondents in the field and in the office over content of their reports. To view edited reports, check they comply with Al Jazeera guidelines and assume final responsibility for clearing them for broadcast To communicate decisions to all other news centers To ensure Al Jazeera English's coverage and content is consistent with the Al Jazeera Network goals and international law To ensure close communication and exchange of material with Al Jazeera Arabic To originate and develop ideas for items, strands and programmes To ensure effective use of programme budgets and resources May be asked to deputize for senior staff Substantial practical experience of leading news teams is required – must have several years of experience at a national network level or above. First class news judgment and comprehensive understanding of global news events, authority and excellent team leadership skills required. Perfect communication and motivation skills and the ability to resolve conflict is a must. Thorough knowledge of broadcast law and regulations affecting Al Jazeera content and thorough knowledge of TV production techniques and technology is required.
