Project Coordinator for Research, Knowledge and Solutions in the MENA region Transparency International (TI)

Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

Main functions:

Coordinate the development and implementation of Research activities and support the development of new and innovative tools at a National level across the MENA region. This requires ensuring the timely execution of the day-to-day operation of the RKS component of the TI MENA Programme, including supporting National Chapters in the development of research activities, integrating research into advocacy strategies, administration, financial management and reporting.

Location: TI-Secretariat, Berlin, Germany; with international travel

Starting date: 01.01.2012 or asap

Contract: 2 years (2012 to 2013) with possibility of extension to 2014)

Project management:

  • Ensure smooth preparation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of the TI MENA Programme activities related to Anti-Corruption Research, Tools and Solutions.
  • Assist the TI MENA Programme Coordinator with financial management of the programme and contribute to donor reporting
  • Organize regional events and assist National Chapters, especially with workshops on research methodologies, analysis of findings and presentation to the public. Assist chapters in further developing relevant capacities where needed for anti-corruption research, tools and solutions

Research oversight:

  • Provide coordination and support to TI National Chapters’ project teams on research and advocacy and facilitate expert advice on/quality assurance of research outputs developed by TI National Chapters.
  • Support the review and quality control process of all research products


Advocacy:

  • Support TI-S and national chapters in the use of research tools to strengthen national level advocacy plans.

Programme Development:

  • Coordinate/ liaise with the TI-S Research and Knowledge department and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the Anti-Corruption Research, Tools and Solutions activities are in line with the TI Strategy 2015 Priorities 2 and 3

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • University/post graduate degree (or equivalent qualification) in political science, sociology, development studies or other relevant field in the social sciences
  • 3 to 5 years’ relevant work experience on governance and anti-corruption issues (in NGOs, international organisations, private sector, etc) preferably with a strong social research focus
  • Experience in coordinating the implementation of evidence-based advocacy projects
  • Excellent project development, project management and coordination skills
  • Excellent budget management skills
  • Excellent knowledge and experience of the MENA region
  • Knowledge of, or considerable interest in, the work of TI and the field of anti-corruption skills
  • Proven experience in social research design, analysis and presentation for policy and advocacy purposes
  • High attention to detail and strong academic standards
  • Fluency in English; working knowledge of Arabic and French is an advantage.
  • Highly developed team work and intercultural communication skills
  • Willingness to regularly travel to the MENA region
