Site Operations Manager - Bioplants

Site Operations Manager makes judgements and takes decisions using own initiative.
The Bioplant department is a sub section of the By-products business area which includes animal feeds plants within ES Malt Distilling.
Bioplants Site operations Manager has direct responsibility for 2 x bioplants, including energy generations from bioplants, plus advisory role for all other biological treatment plant within ES Malt Distilling.
The process operators, at each of the 2 relevant bioplants, report to the Site Operations Manager. Therefore, effective team leadership skills are a key requirement for this role with the emphasis on increasing employee involvement in all aspects of site operations.
Within Malt Distilling there is a focus on World Class practices and the effective management of change to achieve this goal.
The sites are generally located in small communities; therefore, active involvement in local activities is important.
Statutory and Diageo regulations and management systems must be understood and complied with.


Purpose of Role

This is a proactive role whose purpose is to manage efficiently, economically and safely all aspects of the day to day operation of bioplants and subsequent energy generation.
To positively contribute to a World Class outlook and actively support the development and successful implementation of strategies to achieve this aim.

Key responsibilities of this role are:

Ensure site production satisfies or improves on budget, volume, cost and efficiency targets.
Support full bioplants operations throughout Malt Distilling.

Ensure that effluent quality discharge standards are maintained or bettered.
Facilitate and support process developments and changes.

Ensure site operations comply with all statutory requirements and Diageo standards, eg Health and Safety, environmental policy, etc.

Plan and implement a programme of operator development interviews to review performance and agree future training needs. Agree future training dates and set up training plan.

Support the Senior Manager in developing a workplace environment to enhance all employees, both as individuals and as teams, understanding of and contribution to business objectives.
Willing to initiate and participate in cross-functional communication forums to ensure company strategic aims are implemented.

Fully implement the agreed recommendations of site audits in consultation with the Senior Manager.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders.

Support Senior Manager in proposing site capital expenditure plans. Spending authority defined by Senior Manager within agreed budget areas.

Produce and review in consultation with Senior Manager stretching site budgets designed to achieve improved financial performance.


Profile

In order to be successful in this role you need to demonstrate an ability to meet management performance standards and be active in supporting systems for implementing best demonstrated practice.

You should hold an appropriate degree in an environmental discipline and must have experience of working with effluent treatment from a continuous process industry and energy generation utilising effluents stream (i.e. Anaerobic Digestion).

We are also looking for someone who is proactive in identifying opportunities to continually improve the site operations processes and prepared to actively participate in the change process. The successful candidate must be in possession of full driving licence.
