Context
Proactive role whose purpose is to manage efficiently, economically and safely all aspects of the day to day production of malt, high quality malt whisky and co-products, produced at a single site.
The Warehousing Operations Manager makes judgements and takes decisions using own initiative. Site remoteness can often make this a demanding aspect of the role.
The process operators, at each site, report to the Warehousing Operations Manager so effective team leadership skills are a key requirement for this role with the emphasis on increasing employee involvement in all aspects of site operations.
Within Malt Distilling there is a focus on World Class practices and the effective management of change to achieve this goal.
Statutory and Diageo regulations and management systems must be understood and complied with.
Role
- Actively participate in and support strategic initiatives designed to meet future business requirements.
- Ensure site production satisfies or improves on budget,volume, cost and efficiency targets.
- Ensure that product quality standards are maintained and the quality of externally purchased materials conforms to company specifications.
- Ensure site operations comply with all statutory requirements and Diageo standards, eg Customs and Excise, Health and Safety, environmental issues, etc.
- Plan and implement a programme of operator development interviews to review performance and agree future training needs.
- Monitor production and performance targets to meet or exceed external and internal customer expectations. Recommend site production plans to meet agreed targets.
- Provide coaching and support to direct reports in achieving good performance standard.
- Fully implement the agreed recommendations of site audits in consultation with the Manager.
- Ensure process plant maintenance and cleanliness standards are consistently met.
- Identify and monitor as appropriate performance indicators relating to efficiency, quality and material stocks.
- Establish and maintain effective and meaningful company-wide relationships among peer group.
- Support Manager in proposing site capital expenditure plans. Spending authority defined by Manager within agreed budget areas.
- Produce and review in consultation with Manager stretching site budgets designed to achieve improved financial performance.
Profile
You will have demonstrated an ability to meet management performance standards and hold a certificate in Management Studies or be actively working towards achieving one. Open learning technical qualification/MAGB Diploma is desirable.
Must have experience of working in a continuous process industry and a thorough understanding of the malt and malt whisky manufacturing processes, including industry-wide issues. Driving license required.
