Our ideal candidate is in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent, holds a COMSOC I & II and has a Trade Test certificate. These are supported by 3 years’ mining engineering experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office. Medical fitness for the position and environment, as determined by a riskbased medical examination at a relevant Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre, is important. A Foreman’s Certificate, completion of a risk assessment course and OSHAS 18001 CAP Auditor Certificate and a National Diploma in Health and Safety Management would be advantageous.


Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Making daily underground and surface visits to inspect working areas
  • Conducting safety meetings
  • Compiling safety reports, risk assessments and audits
  • Training and coaching subordinates
  • Identifying and following up on high-risk areas
  • Conducting accident or incident investigations
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders
  • Compiling safety statistics
  • Enforcing adherence to standards and procedures.
