Gold Fields is the world’s fourth largest gold producer with attributable production of 3.6 million gold equivalent ounces per annum from nine operating mines in Australia, Ghana, Peru and South Africa. The South Africa Region of Gold Fields is the bedrock on which the company is built. With Mineral Resources of 174 million ounces (inclusive of WWTTP and Uncle Harry’s) and total Mineral Reserves of some 60 million ounces, Gold Fields holds the dominant position in the famous Witwatersrand Basin, the most prolific gold-producing region in the world. The Witwatersrand Basin is home to Gold Fields’ famous Driefontein, Kloof and Beatrix Gold Mines, as well the developing South Deep project.

The successful candidate must be in possession of a Mine Manager’s Certificate, Safe Production Rules, Health and Safety course and at least 5 years’ mechanised (trackless) mining experience. Computer literacy with a good working knowledge of MS Office and SAP is essential, along with exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal. He/she must be well versed in Project Management, have good legislative knowledge, including the Mine Health and Safety Act, OHS Act, Labour Law, etc and a good working knowledge of the Mining Charter and Social Labour Plan (SLP). The ability to conduct/participate in negotiations, manage time to meet deadlines and deliver presentations completes the profile. Appointees must be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the relevant Gold Fields
Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test. A Mining degree/diploma/GIBBS - MDP/LDP and membership of ECSA would be advantageous.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Delivering production outputs in terms of the operational plan
  • Ensuring a safe working environment and achieving safety targets
  • Producing gold to targets as indicated in the Balanced Scorecard
  • Managing the delivery of capital projects
  • Developing staff and reaching training targets
  • Delivering projects in terms of project plans.
