Switzerland UNIT MANAGER, HIV/AIDS, TB, AND MALARIA UNIT

To achieve strategy 2020 it became necessary to review and adjust the operational strategies and Secretariat structure in Geneva. This job description reflects the directions identified in the Strategic Operational Framework for the global secretariat health team. - The global health team supports National Societies in the implementation of Strategy 2020 and their individual health agendas at national level. - The global health team is tasked to position the work of National Societies and the secretariat in the international arena in the field of public health. - The global health team works in partnerships with organizations external to RC / RC and supports National Societies to get involved in these partnerships where appropriate.

The global health team consists of people around the globe who share accountability and responsibility for implementing S2020 in the area of health in partnership with Global reference centres and networks of partners and experts as to enhance the Global health team capabilities in the provision of technical assistance to our membership.

The task and responsibilities are in line with the new approach in the Strategic Operational Framework which foresees for the Geneva-based team on the one hand the continuation of technical support and guidance in strategic directions along with colleagues in the zones, regions, countries and on the other hand cross-sectorial work around the four cross-departmental flagship projects using a resilience based approach to public health. The unit is part of the Geneva based global health team. It purpose is:

  • To head the HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria Unit and to facilitate the department wide team project on behavioural change.

  • To manage the delivery of all global activities in the technical areas covered by the unit , presently consisting of HIV and AIDS, Malaria and TB. Where appropriate a resilience based approach to public health will be employed and to ensure linkages and integration -with other programmes and across division (emergency health, community based health care, community preparedness and risk reduction, programme services, humanitarian diplomacy and National societies and knowledge development division).

  • To facilitate the team project on increasing the expertise and capacity to support the implementation and evaluation of behavioural change activities.

  • To facilitate the contribution to the other Global health team project (holistic health and resilience approach, research agenda and innovations and knowledge management.

  • To ensure sound and consistent coordination between Geneva Secretariat, its zones and the country offices, the National Societies membership and the wider international and humanitarian network in the delivery of all global activities covered by the HIV, TB and Malaria programmes.

  • Where appropriate to support global health partnerships.
