The Organisation
Group Functions are the central core of non-technical expertise behind the smooth day-to-day running of BG Group’s business. This area comprises professionals in Finance, Human Resources, Investor Relations, Legal, Policy & Corporate Affairs, Secretariat and Strategy & Portfolio Development. Together they provide strategic direction and support to our Group Executive Committee, Business area managers, and Asset Management teams, helping to underpin our frontline business activities.
Position Summary
We are currently recruiting for a Insurance Officer to be based at our Reading, UK offices.
The Insurance Officer is responsible for implementing and maintaining the BG Group insurable risk programme for designated assets in respect of property and liabilities of the group worldwide and for specific contractual risk allocations, including Indirects, consultancy and similar BG Standards.
The successful candidate will interface with internal BG clients in the assets for which they have responsibility and at TVP (our Reading offices) and also with external service providers, primarily associated with the international insurance marketplace.

The role will also incorporate implementation and management of claims procedures, controls and reporting.
Key Accountabilities

To develop a detailed knowledge and understanding of the BG corporate insurance programme and risk transfer strategy, together with a general knowledge of energy insurance issues

With regard to the designated responsibilities of the role:
  • Analyse and support the design, negotiation and implementation of onshore and offshore operational insurance programmes, including project-specific insurances.
  • Formulation, negotiation and approval of insurance and indemnity clauses in contracts.
  • In line with BG strategy, support the worldwide insurance programme with BG Insurance Company (Singapore) Pte Ltd, and other national/international insurance markets. This includes preparation of underwriting information, negotiation of policy terms and conditions, premium rating structures and placing of business via appropriate intermediaries.
  • Ensure all arrangements comply with the legal requirements in each country of operation, including reference to and documentation of relevant legislation.
  • Liaise effectively with appropriate external service providers, including claims administrators, loss adjusters, engineering surveyors, brokers, risk consultants, legal representatives etc.
  • Maintain an effective claims recording system to facilitate analysis and interpretation of loss statistics.
  • Update and maintain the Policies and Procedures, Systems and Insurance data needs of the Insurance Team.

In addition to any specific accountabilities for HSSE, all managers are accountable for HSSE within their area of the Business and are responsible for ensuring that their team adopt exemplary HSSE behaviours.
Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience and knowledge required:
  • In-depth understanding of the transactional nature of the insurance market place.
  • Knowledge and experience of the international insurance market, from the perspective of a “buyer” of significant worldwide programmes of insurance or as an Insurance Broker or Insurer.
  • Energy insurance expertise, whilst desirable, is not necessarily a pre-requisite for this position.
  • An appropriate professional qualifications such as those accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute, Institute of Risk Management (or equivalent) or be working towards these would be preferred.
  • Demonstrate various experiences in the insurance industry – possibly embracing roles including insurer, broker, risk manager or other experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of reviewing and negotiating insurance terms and conditions.
  • Demonstrable experience of claims handling and negotiation.
  • Demonstrable experience of implementing and maintaining data management systems, procedural documentation and other process-driven requirements.
  • Have a wider knowledge of the aspirations and objectives of BG and of the energy insurance sector.
Skills and Attributes required:
  • Ability to inspire confidence in others by excellent communication skills, and development of/ transmission of the specialist functional knowledge acquired as an insurable risk specialist.
  • Ability to exercise balanced judgement, to negotiate with tact and diplomacy but also with persuasiveness and strength in order to achieve the optimum result for BG.
  • Adept team player whilst maintaining the ability to work independently.
