Payroll & HR Assistant

The Payroll and Human Resources Assistant, under the leadership of the Manger, Human Resources & Administration, is responsible for payroll processing, benefit enrollments, and other administrative HR duties. This position is based in our Washington DC office.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Payroll & Timekeeping – Prepare and process the semi-monthly payroll entering employee changes, deductions, adjustments, etc. in the ADP online payroll system; submit payroll reports to for review and approval in a timely manner. Also maintain the online timekeeping system, setting up new hires, tracking and updating employee leave, and training employees on use of the system, as needed. Answer employee questions and resolve issues regarding payroll and timekeeping.
  • Benefits Processing – Enroll employees in eligible benefits in a timely manner (medical, 401(k), FSA, transportation, and life/disability); keep accurate records of all benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations; and process 401(k) contributions.
  • Recruitment Assistance– Post and advertise positions; assist with screening, reference checking, and preparation of offer letters as needed.
  • New Employee Orientation (NEO) – Ensure new hires are processed accurately for payroll and benefits.
  • Personnel File Maintenance: Create and maintain new employee files to include all necessary paperwork.
  • Special Projects/Research – Assist with special projects such as running reports, pulling census data, compiling information for worker’s comp audit, researching new HR policy or best practices, preparing annual salary change notices, assisting with the intern program, etc.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred and at least 1 year of payroll processing experience required, preferably ADP on-line
  • Familiarity with benefits administration
  • Detail oriented and able to work successfully under tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong work ethic, diplomatic, confidential and trustworthy
  • Driven, intellectually curious, takes initiative, looking to learn and grow
