PCI Country Director - Botswana

Founded in 1961, PCI is an international development and humanitarian assistance organization dedicated to promoting community health and integrated development worldwide. PCI is headquartered in San Diego, CA, and currently operates in 16 countries in Asia, Africa, and the Americas. Sectoral focus areas include humanitarian assistance and disaster risk management; health and nutrition; water and sanitation; food and livelihood security; and disease prevention and mitigation. With a FY11 operating budget of $34 million, PCI serves nearly 5 million people annually.

Project Concern International (PCI) is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to improving health and development. In Botswana, PCI is presently leading programs to improve the care and support of vulnerable children and promote gender equity in targeted districts, and to improve HIV prevention services within the Botswana Defense Force. We are presently seeking a Country Director to lead our field operation, as the Chief Representative and Fiduciary Officer for PCI in Botswana.

Station: Gaborone, with local and international travel
Remuneration: Negotiable depending on experience and qualifications
Tenure: Two year contract


Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in all programmatic, financial, and administrative aspects of PCI’s programs and operations in Botswana
  • Ensures high quality program implementation that achieves stated objectives and results in positive community impact
  • Represent PCI to donors, government of Botswana, partners, and other stakeholders
  • Assure compliance with all funding agreements and local regulations governing I-NGOs
  • Oversee the development and ongoing review of annual work-plans and budgets, ensuring that project benchmarks are met within the approved budgets
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, coach and evaluate staff and consultants of PCI
  • Ensure consistent and effective implementation of PCI’s policies, systems, procedures, structures and tools
  • Identify and participate in the development of new business opportunities
  • Liaise with other international NGOs, local stakeholders, key agencies and ministries, and other implementing partners to ensure successful coordination of project operations
  • Oversee the reports preparation process and will be responsible for meeting donor reporting requirements, including program implementation documentation
  • Ensure that all program related reports are prepared and delivered to the donor and/or stakeholders on a timely basis


Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in health or related field
  • 5+ years in similar types of leadership roles, including demonstrated track record in financial management, human resource management, and dealing with senior government officials
  • 7+ years of experience in designing, implementing and monitoring HIV and AIDS projects in Africa. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in child welfare, gender and capacity building
  • Experience in financial management and administration, with experience managing USAID or other US government funds required
  • Excellent English writing skills for report and proposal development
  • Experience in Program performance management, including program monitoring and evaluation
  • Capacity to develop and mentor a team of highly qualified professionals
  • Ability to collaborate with people and organizations of diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent facilitation, analytical and organizational skills
  • Advanced Excel and financial management abilities
  • A passion for the mission and values of PCI
