PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER

Job location: Westlands, Nairobi

Purpose of Job

PR officers monitor publicity and conduct research to find out the concerns and expectations of an organization’s stakeholders. They then report and explain the findings to its management.

  • Planning, developing and implementing PR strategies;
  • Liaising with colleagues and key spokespeople;
  • Liaising with and answering enquiries from media, individuals and other organizations, often via telephone and email;
  • Researching, writing and distributing press releases to targeted media;
  • Collating and analyzing media coverage;
  • Writing and editing in-house magazines, case studies, speeches, articles and annual reports;
  • Preparing and supervising the production of publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films and multimedia programmes;
  • Devising and coordinating photo opportunities;
  • Organizing events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours;
  • Maintaining and updating information on the organization’s website;
  • Sourcing and managing speaking and sponsorship opportunities;
  • Commissioning market research;
  • Fostering community relations through events such as open days and through involvement in community initiatives;
  • Managing the PR aspect of a potential crisis situation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Communication or Diploma Public Relations
  • A minimum of three years experience in the advertising, and/or communications field
  • Should be knowledge able about computers e.g photoshop, illustrator etc.
  • Should know about today's culture and all the social networking sites as they will be extremely important for the client's image .
  • Should have great skill in management and event organization

Experiences

  • Should have good people skill as you will be required to interact with a lot of people on the daily basis
  • Demonstrate knowledge about the popular culture
  • Demonstrate ability to think on their feet as crisis can happen anytime
  • Demonstrate good relations with the members of the media.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of plan writing and execution, appropriate media tactics, advertising production and metrics.
  • Demonstrate highly developed communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage a diverse group of professionals; work effectively with peers and with line management
