Safety Officer - Petra Diamonds

Sedibeng Diamond Mine JV

The Sedibeng operation includes the Messina and Dancarl Mines and is located in the Warrenton District, Northern Cape Province in South Africa.

Safety Officer

The incumbent will apply, monitor and assist with the application and the management of the Health and Safety control systems and procedures according to organisational and legislative requirements.

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Advise on the Mine Health and Safety Act and Petra safety standards, identify health and safety issues, recommend solutions and monitor
  • the implementation thereof
  • Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the health and safety management programme and ensure adherence to the programme goals and
  • objectives
  • Investigate all serious and critical incidents and associated follow-ups with action strategies and assist to implement plans to prevent similar occurrences
  • Compile health and safety reports to meet on-mine requirements
  • Conduct required health and safety audits and inspections
  • Assist to maintain the health and safety risk management system according to organisational requirements
  • Monitor the legal compliance of training
  • Function as a member of the department and ensure adherence to deadlines
  • Work shifts and do standby duties
  • Work according to the mine’s Code of Practice, and report any observations of this not being done
  • Ensure personal and co-workers’ adherence and compliance with security and the Company’s SHE objectives.

Minimum requirements:

  • SHEMTRAC/SAMTRAC/COMSOC
  • Grade 12
  • Valid public driver’s licence (Code EB)
  • Previous relevant experience in the Health and Safety discipline
  • Knowledge of the underground workings would be beneficial
  • PC literate and working knowledge (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in Microsoft Office and Windows System.
