VACANCIES ANNOUNCEMENT

The Public Service Recruitment Secretariat was established in accordance with section No.29 (1) of the Public Service (Amendment) Act No.18 of 2007. One of the main functions of this organ is to advertise vacant posts occurring in the Public Service and conduct recruitment process.

On behalf of the Ministry of Communication Science and Technology (The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission - TAEC), the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat invites qualified Tanzanians to fill vacant posts as shown below.

1.0 TANZANIA ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION

The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) is a Regulatory and Service Parastatal Organization established under the Atomic Energy Act No. 7 of 2003, which became effective on 1st July 2004. The Commission has been mandated to regulate and supervise the use of Atomic Energy and Nuclear Technology so as to protect workers, patients, the public and the environment from harmful effects of both Ionizing and Non-Ionizing Radiation. Further to this TAEC has been mandated to co-ordinate and facilitate the promotion of Nuclear Technology and the safe and peaceful utilization of Atomic Energy.

1.1 RADIATION HEALTH PHYSICS RESEARCH OFFICER I - 3 POSTS 1.1.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in the regional and international dose inter comparisons

• Responsible for dosimetry and calibration of radiation measuring systems and interpretation of results.

• Implementation and co-ordination of radiation protection services.

• Perform research activities for the improvement of radiation protection services.

• Establish and maintain registers and computer database for radiation sources, licenses and various practices, which shall be kept up to date;

• Formulate and implement appropriate procedures for informing licensees and the public about radiation safety aspects of the regulated practices;

• Perform any other related duties assigned by his/her seniors

1.1.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• MSc/Masters Degree in either Nuclear Sciences, Physics, Radiological Health, Medical Physics, Radiation Protection, Mining Engineering, Geology, Nuclear Engineering or Radiation Physics.

• Three (3) years experience in relevant field will be an added advantage.

1.2 RADIATION HEALTH PHYSICS RESEARCH ASSISTANT - 3 POSTS 1.2.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform equipment checks; prepare reports of dose calibration measurements;

• Updating of occupational dose database of radiation workers;

• Evaluate and prepare occupational exposure status reports for interventional measures by

concerned;

• Arrange and make follow-up inspections for implementation of safety remedial measures;

• Conduct radiation surveillance and quality control tests of radiation premises and equipment during inspections;

• Perform any other related duties assigned by his/her seniors

1.2.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• BSc. degree in either Nuclear Sciences, Physics, Radiological Health, Medical Physics, Radiation Protection, Mining Engineering, Geology, Nuclear Engineering or Radiation Physics.

1.3 NUCLEAR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ASSISTANT - 3 POSTS 1.3.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in the collection of data, samples and any other scientific information relevant to the work;

• Perform sampling, sample preparation, qualitative and quantitative determination of gamma, beta and alpha emitters in foodstuff, fertilizers and various materials for preparation of radiation free certificates and reports;

• Conduct inspection visits to entry points and check compliance with the regulations of the control of foodstuffs;

• Maintain an inventory of users of radioactive materials and generators of radioactive wastes;

• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by his/her seniors.

1.3.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• BSc. degree in either Nuclear Sciences, Radiology, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, Geology, Nuclear Engineering, Food Science, Food Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Radiological Health or Radiation Physics.

1.4 NUCLEAR INSTRUMENTATION TECHNICIAN - 3 POSTS 1.4.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a training post where the candidate will be assigned duties by his/her seniors so as to acquire experience in Instrument Maintenance and repair of nuclear instruments.

• Ensure the laboratory equipment are clean and tidy at all the times;

• Ensure proper arrangements of equipment in the laboratory;

• Record the electronic components/items in tally cards, bin cards, registers and computer database;

• Perform preventive maintenance or repair of electronic and electrical instruments under the

supervision of his/her seniors;

• Receive and install new instruments and immediately submit a series of acceptance tests designed to establish whether its initial performance conforms to manufacturers’ specifications;

• Perform all quality control and preventive maintenance procedures as described in the operation/service manuals for all commission equipment under the supervision of his/her seniors;

• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by his/her seniors

1.4.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Full Technician Certificate (FTC)/Diploma in either Instrumentation, biomedical engineering, Electronics and Communications Sciences or Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering.

1.5 ACCOUNTANT II - 2 POSTS 1.5.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure that all accounting documents are properly filed;

• Prepare invoices from bills;

• Prepare revenue accounts schedules and reconciliation;

• Prepare monthly payroll slips for each employee, and keeping records and pay-roll registers;

• Remit net salaries to the employee ‘respective banks accounts or preparations of authorized lists for those employees to be paid in cash;

• Maintain the employees’ ledger for staff advances, loans and duty travel imprests;

• Follow up on outstanding amounts;

• Maintains registers for debtors accurately and up-to-date;

• Responsible for banking of all cheques and cash coming into the commission;

• Performs any other duties assigned by the bursar.

1.5.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• B.Com(Accounting), Bachelor of Accountancy and Finance, ADA or ADCA from recognized Institutes

1.6 OFFICE MANAGEMENT SECRETARY – 1 POST 1.6.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Types confidential matters and coordinates office needs;

• Receives and send letters to respective officials;

• Keeps minutes/records of meetings

• Arranges and attends meeting where necessary, and writes minutes

• Receives telephone calls and take messages;

• Handles travel arrangement on duty for Seniors and other members of the Unit/department;

• Ensures that copies of letters are files in relevant files;

• Coordinates and supervise secretaries/typists in the Unit

• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by his/her seniors

1.6.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Diploma in Secretarial Studies from recognized institutions plus 100/100 wpm in English or Swahili and 50 wpm typing, tabulation, and Manuscript Stage III, Secretarial Duty and Office Procedure stage II and has completed an Advanced Computer Course of not less than six months from recognized institutions and has some short training course in Office Management with experience of not less than six years.

1.7 DRIVER - 2 POSTS

1.7.1 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive skillfully all types of Commission vehicles;

• Keep records of the movement of vehicles and maintain up-to date logbook;

• Facilitate dispatch of and receive mails, to and from postal office;

• Check vehicle as to fuel, oil, water and tyre pressure levels;

• Facilitate pickups of Commission’s visitors and guests;

• Responsible for maintaining the vehicle in clean condition;

• Perform any other related duties as may be assigned by his/her officers.

1.7.2 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Form IV or VI certificate with Class C valid driving license. The candidate must demonstrate good understanding of English language. He/She should have Trade Test III on motor vehicle maintenance and a driving experience not less than three (3) years in that class.
