Tanzania Community Project Research & Developer

Role Description:

This Role Description outlines the position of Community Project Research & Developer for TEACH’s Tanzanian operations. This is a new post and is part of the organisations plans to develop and expand their programmes within the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania.

We are a small but dynamic and fast-moving team who are looking for passionate and highly motivated team members to join us to develop a specific new community driven model. Key areas of this new model will include youth leadership, community engagement and mobilization and social entrepreneurship.

Role Title: Community Project Research & Developer – Tanzania

Location: Moshi town, Moshi-Kilimanjaro region, Tanzania

Travel: From time to time, travel may be required as part of the role. Mainly within the Kilimanjaro Region.

Accountable to: Head of International Development team

Hours: 5 full days per weeks. Some evenings and weekends may be required

Annual leave: 25 days (excluding Tanzanian Public Holidays)

Salary: TSH TBC per month, paid at the end of the calendar month

Expenses: Any reasonable expenses incurred will be repaid on a monthly basis following submission of an expenses form and respective receipts

Duration: 6 months probation period. Role is ongoing with an annual review of contract.

Personal Specification:

Essential:
• Minimum degree educated
• Confident/fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili
• Excellent written, and oral communication skills, and able to communicate to a variety of audiences
• Experience working in a Tanzanian NGO
• Project planning qualifications/ experience
• A good understanding of project and programme planning frameworks
• A good understanding of the core principles of good practice in development including youth, gender, and social inclusion; partnership & capacity building.
• Computer literate
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Experienced internet skills and online research
• High motivation, with the ability to be pro-active and work with others and on his/her own
• Willingness to work with limited resources
• Empathy and high commitment to TEACH’s mission and organisational values

Desirable:
• Experience working with youth and community mobilization
• Experience working in social enterprise & entrepreneurship area
• Experience of research techniques and methodology
• Experience of monitoring and evaluating
• Existing knowledge of Kilimanjaro Region and its Districts

Job description:

Please note that this Job description can be amended from time to time. Duties will be commensurate to those acting in a leadership role and therefore a degree of flexibility is required.

Strategy
• Work in Partnership with Tanzania team to deliver TEACH’s Mission and Objectives
• Assist with registration process of local NGO (TEACH Tanzania)
• Assist to establish monitoring, evaluation and reporting programme
• Develop TEACH’s in-country activities and partnership programmes
Finance
• Minimal financial responsibility

Programme research, planning and development
• Researching and planning youth focus group techniques and exercises
• Conducting focus groups with youth from rural communities
• Data collection and analysis
• Collaborating results and integrating them into a long term strategy
• Researching potential project locations and visits where necessary
• Assist initiating partnerships and establish clear operating guidelines including Terms of Agreement for Programme delivery
• Researching and developing a course structure to be initiated with youth from rural communities
