Technical Trainer - Education , United States Peace Corps

The United States Peace Corps, a United States Government Organization, with Volunteer programs in 77 countries around the world, is seeking a trainer to deliver sessions to a group of 45 American Peace Corps Trainees from 01 June 2012 until 30 September 2012.

Minimum Requirements

  • A three year post-Matric qualification with English as a major
  • Fluency in English
  • Training experience preferably to adults and in ESL
  • Ability to both work collaboratively on a team as well as provide leadership and direction in specific technical capacity building.
  • Willingness and commitment to live in a rural village for the duration of the contract

Job Specification

We are looking for a person who has a thorough understanding of the subjects and syllabi for the Primary Schools’ Intermediate Phase: Grades 4 – 6. The focus of the training will be on teaching English as a second language to Intermediate Phase students. There will also be some Maths and Science training that needs to take place. The requirements for the position include: · experience in training adults· understanding of the education system in South Africa· familiar with rural school classroom practices · understanding of English as a second language

to deliver approximately 2 hours of prescribed training per day for a total of 50 hours technical sessions during the course of the
training.
· to prepare the Trainees for teaching English in a South African rural primary school
  • to provide periodic reports during training and a final report at the end of the training
  • to monitor the progress of the Trainees during practice teaching at local primary schools
  • to develop tools to monitor progress of the Trainees
  • to provide feedback to the programme managers and Training Manager.
  • to coordinate and interface with the training team to enhance the overall learning and capacity building to trainees. This would include Language and Cultural Facilitators. Volunteer Technical Coordinator, and other PC Staff and Volunteers addressing core Peace Corps Training requirements.
  • to stay at the training site during the week of training – from mid-July until mid-September. The training site is typically in a rural village about 2 hours from Pretoria.
