Since 1993, Hospice Africa Uganda (HAU) (national organization) has promoted modern methods of pain and symptom control as well as “whole-person” (holistic) care for patients living with cancer and HIV/AIDS. HAU strives to uphold excellent clinical standards and provide quality education courses and advocacy activities to promote spread of palliative care throughout Uganda and Africa. Hospice Africa Uganda has a head office in Kampala, site offices in Mbarara and Hoima Districts.

HUA wishes to recruit dynamic, skilled and competent persons to fill the following position:

Title: Driver

JOB PURPOSE: To drive the staff, Patients and/or any other assigned passenger.

Requirement:

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Qualified Driver: with a valid driving license plus at least 2 years experience with a reputable organization.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and good interpersonal

Title: Palliative Care Nurse/ Dispenser based in Kampala

JOB PURPOSE: To provide comprehensive and integrated care for terminally ill cancer/or AIDS patients and their families at Hospice, in Hospital and the community, takes part in dispensing and Pharmacy related roles.

Requirement:

SPECIFIC DUTIES REQUIREMENTS:
  • Registered Nursing certificate from a recognized educational institution;
  • Minimum of two years work experience in a clinical setting preferably in palliative care or related specialty e.g. HIV or cancer care;
  • Basic computer literacy.

Pharmacist based in Kampala (3 days a week)

JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for the production of morphine, provide quality control and assurance for the production unit, monitoring, packaging and dispensing of medicines, and offer professional consultation to the patients and HAU

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Pharmacist for the morphine production unit at HAU, and all its processes related to making a safe, quality product.
  • Offer quality control and quality assurance for the dispensing pharmacy and morphine production unit.
  • Ensures that drug orders are properly processed and all prescriptions processed the same day they are received.
  • Takes all steps required to fill prescriptions in compliance with all laws, regulations, and organisation policies and procedures. Ensure good prescriptions dispensing practices
  • Participates in the assessment process and of action plans as directed by Clinical Director or designee
  • Assists with and responds in a courteous and professional manner to questions from patients and clinicians in regards to knowledge of prescription and pharmaceutical products and issues.
  • Supervise and mentor the pharmacy and morphine production unit human resources across the three HAU sites
  • Offer expert advice and counsel regarding dispensing and pharmacy related issues
  • Lead stock taking, auditing, and research within and for the pharmacy
  • Participate in the clinical management of patients
  • Be involved in education of the clinical and other teams regarding medications, pharmaceutical issues etc

Requirement:

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university
EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be a pharmacist registered with the Pharmaceutical Society of Uganda, with at least 2 years experience preferably in a busy pharmaceutical set up.
  • Should have good organizational skills, be able to work under minimum supervision and with excellent communication skills, independent, self motivated and willing to work longer hours.
  • Experience with morphine, training in Good Manufacturing Practices and HSP will be an added advantage.

INVITATION FOB AUDIT FIRM TO ASSESS HAU ENVIRONMENT OF CONTROLS

HAU is also seeking for an Audit firm to assess HAU environment of controls. The Audit service shall be in accordance with the International standards of Auditing. The Audit firm shall, during audit, advise and update management on system, controls and policy implementation in the following areas;

  • Financial and Accounting Systems
  • Procurement Systems
  • Budget Control Systems
  • Human Resource Policies and Practices
  • Grants Management Systems
  • Inventory Management Systems
  • Management Philosophy and Operating Style
  • Information Technology Systems
  • Organisational Structure
  • Management & Monitoring of Performance
  • Compliance with Laws and Regulations.
