The International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance — International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization that supports sustainable democracy worldwide. Its objective is to strengthen democratic institutions and processes. International IDEA acts as a catalyst for democracy building by providing knowledge resources, policy proposals and supporting democratic reforms in response to specific national requests. It works together with policy makers, governments, UN organizations and agencies and regional organizations engaged in the field of democracy building.

International IDEA’s notable areas of expertise are: electoral processes, political parties, constitution-building processes, democracy and gender and democracy assessments. International IDEA works worldwide. It is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and has offices in Brussels, The Hague, New York, Latin America, Africa and Asia/Pacific.

Senior Project Manager

Based in International IDEA's office in The Hague, the Senior Project Manager (SPM) will lead the Constitution Building Processes (CBP), one of the Institute’s four principle programmes. This is an opportunity to shape a new phase of the programme in a way that anticipates the rapidly changing context for constitution building and makes a seminal contribution to a complex but critical aspect of democracy cooperation.

Under the SPM’s leadership, IDEA should strengthen its engagement in constitution building by enhancing the quality of inclusion and participation in processes being undertaken on the ground and placing constitution building more firmly within the international democracy cooperation agenda.

The SPM will report to the Director Global Programmes and will lead the Global Programmes/Constitution Building Processes division. She/He will work closely with International IDEA’s headquarters in Stockholm, as well as IDEA’s regional offices.

The functions of the post require a minimum of ten years experience in democracy support with at least five years in the field of constitution building, as well as a proven ability to build organizational networks and partnerships, and a track record in management of human and financial resources.
