A voice for millions of children

Director, Global Communications

This role will give you responsibility for external and internal communications at one of the largest children's development organisations in the world.

The Opportunity

Founded over 75 years ago, Plan International now works in 50 of the world’s poorest developing countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas. Each year Plan generates around €600m to fund programmes which deliver long lasting benefits in areas such as health, education and protection – supporting millions of children and communities as they strive to lift themselves out of poverty.

We want to see a world in which all children can fulfill their potential in societies that respect people’s rights and dignity. Your leadership will drive and inspire strategic communications activities which enhance the awareness, the reputation, the reach and the impact of Plan’s work. This will make you a central figure in achieving our global goals, as we seek to grow our income and our influence by 2015.

The role

Your external communications remit will focus on enhancing Plan’s global reputation with key stakeholders, including governments, international institutions and donors. You’ll also have a key role in our response to major events and emergencies, as well as ensuring communications activity supports our development programmes. By leading on internal communications, you will ensure high staff engagement levels are achieved to support organisational learning, celebrate success and deliver necessary change.

The requirements

  • Senior leadership experience in communications and brand management, preferably with exposure to the not-for-profit or international development sectors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of international media operations and public relations strategies, as well as familiarity with digital and social media.
  • Strong conceptual and strategic thinking, complemented by excellent decision making ability and influencing skills – a talent for building strong teams and partnerships is a must.
  • Good knowledge of international affairs and an interest in how global change impacts on children and communities in the so-called developing world.
