LEII: Political & Digital Communications Officer British Embassy


A full time position as a Political & Digital Communications Officer (LEII) at the British Embassy in Brussels has become available.

Job Description

Working closely with colleagues in the FCO network, the successful candidate will play an integral role in the Political and Public Diplomacy Section (PPD), and will be tasked with driving forward and delivering the Embassy’s digital communications work, while contributing to the wider objectives of the Embassy. The key responsibilities of the job will be to:
  • Drive forward and deliver a digital strategy, with regular and timely communication on the work of the Embassy and the UK Government via social media such as facebook and Twitter @UKinBelgium;
  • Co-ordinate and support Embassy teams on contributions for digital communications, while advising rotating intern;
  • Active and innovative engagement with online communities as the digital voice of the UK in Belgium, including monitoring key decision-makers and groups;
  • Manage and generate high standard content for the Embassy website - www.ukinbelgium.fco.gov.uk;
  • Act as the primary contact for public enquiries;
  • Assist in the organisation of public diplomacy events and high level visits to promote UK interests in Belgium;
  • Monitor the Belgian press and contribute to the Embassy’s broader political reporting, including on the Belgian domestic political situation and a number of policy areas.
The British Embassy Brussels is the key point of contact for all Belgo-British bilateral relations. This is therefore a wide-ranging and challenging job, which would offer the successful candidate the opportunity to develop a broad range of contacts in the Belgian and UK governments (including Foreign Office digital & press teams), as well as in media, business, and academic circles. Given the broad remit of the role, the position would allow for a large degree of initiative and creativity with scope to produce material both by own efforts and encouraging others. It would suit a confident self-starter.

Essential Skills

  • Fluent English oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience communicating through a range of social media platforms, such as Twitter;
  • Ability to work effectively and flexibly in a small team;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills;
  • Confidence and ability to take the initiative and be creative.

Highly Desirable

  • Dutch and/or French;
  • Previous website management experience;
  • Knowledge of the Belgian political system.

Desirable

  • Understanding of the UK political system.
This position will be filled on a fixed term contract. You must be legally entitled to live and work in Belgium at the point of application.
Taxable gross monthly salary: €2736.57
